Audio Translator — Privacy Policy
Android app app.audiotranslator · Effective October 17, 2026
Audio Translator shows live, translated subtitles for audio playing on your phone. It is built so that your audio and its text stay on your device. The app has no account, no server of its own, no ads and no analytics of its own.
Audio and text
With your permission, Android lets the app capture the sound other apps are playing. Speech is recognized by a model that ships with the app, and translation runs on the device. Audio, recognized text and translations are never uploaded, sold or shared, and are not saved. The only things kept on your phone are your settings (languages, subtitle window position and size).
The app never captures the screen picture, the microphone or phone calls.
Downloads
After installation, Google Play delivers the speech recognition model as part of the app. When you pick a subtitle language for the first time, the app downloads an on-device translation pack for it from Google. These downloads contain no data about you.
Google ML Kit
On-device translation and language identification use Google ML Kit. To diagnose problems and measure usage, ML Kit sends Google technical information: device and app information, device or other identifiers, performance metrics, API configuration, input and output size, error codes, the source and target languages you configured and the languages it identified. It does not send your audio, the recognized text or the translations. Google encrypts this data in transit and does not share it with third parties. See ML Kit data disclosure and the Google Privacy Policy.
Permissions
- Record audio / screen cast prompt — required by Android for capturing audio played by other apps. Only the sound is used.
- Display over other apps — shows the subtitle window on top of the app you are watching.
- Notifications and foreground service — keeps subtitles running while you use other apps, with stop and language buttons in the notification.
- Internet — downloads translation packs.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
Deleting your data
The app itself keeps nothing about you outside your phone. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, removes your settings and the downloaded models. ML Kit diagnostics are handled by Google as described in the Google Privacy Policy.
